Under the Rose
- Mother Russia's Egg -
Once upon a time, not that long ago as far as the History of Ages is concerned but time enough for memories
to fray and loosen, on a fair autumn day when the morning sun shone brightly upon the minarets of St
Basil's and the cobbles of Red Square, two people breakfasted together. There was no pleasure in the
meeting; it was a business affair.

Spaceways Inflight Magazine.
- The Dissolution of Blue -
Blue had seen pictures, drawn by the Virtualists of the early 21st C, of humans firstly dissolving,
or reforming (it was hard to tell from the pictures), into thousands of brass and steel coloured squares
and then into nothingness. She had never thought that she would see it happening right in front of her.

- Fusion Heart, Automatic Swan -
"I'm not what you think I am," she said.

Aramathea Willoughby alone. I was not going to waste this opportunity. I chose my words carefully.

- Thunder Road -
From the towers of the corporate castellum - scraping the sky like the chrome-coloured
nails of a whore - it was possible to gaze steeply down on to the squat mechanistic
shapes of the city's clubs and malls. They crouched inside the boundary of the outer
ramparts, just close enough to the outside to taste the sewage and campfire stench of
the barrio.

- Old Gods - "Are you sure you know what you are doing, boy?" asked Grim.
"That sounded like a challenge."
"You know how that goes," said Luka. "It's traditional."
"Three challenges," said Ox, joining Luka at the bar and waving his empty pint
glass in Andy's direction. "One against each of us."

- The Fundamentals - Gwen stood by the balustrade, above the mansion's main
entrance, scowling in the direction of the aircab. She wouldn't be lonely and
miserable for long, I thought; Lionel was standing just inside the shadow of the velvet drapes, ready to alleviate at
least one, maybe both, of her symptoms.
I felt nauseous.
